Moving

Congratulations, you are a homeowner. Now it's time to move into your new house. The basics of moving - the packing, planning and organizing - apply to everyone, but if you are relocating to a completely new community there are some additional steps in your move.

Moving 101

There are a few basic tips that will help make any move as pain-free as possible. Keep these in mind when you are organizing your move.

• Keep your important documents such as birth certificates, school records, bank records and phone lists with you. Don't trust them to your movers.
• Pack as much as you can in advance of moving day. Streamline your old household to the bare essentials as you pack everything else.
• Create an organized system to keep track of what's in each box.
• Speaking of boxes, expect to need more supplies than you can imagine. Get plenty of boxes, high quality packing tape, marking pens and other supplies.
• Be sure to secure your valuables like silverware, antiques and collectibles.
• To make unpacking easier, it's a good idea to make each room's boxes easily identifiable.

Long Distance Relocation

If your move is a relocation into a new community, you should enlist the help of a relocation specialist.
